Bird Cage Card Box. For Rent. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

I bought this great bird cage...that's more like a Terraium...from a great store we have in Downtown Holly called My Sweet Holly {it's full of shabby, vintage inspired furniture and home decor...you know...all the stuff I love!}.
I removed one of the top glass panels and used it as our card holder at our wedding! It's now on display and FOR RENT! {Only $15} It's already booked for August 28th...so hurry and book your date!

Do It Yourself. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan

Nothing like a good ol' do-it-yourself project! This necklace was made with all products found at Micheal's! It was one of those...if I needed a necklace...got around to making it projects that never happened for me...{and it's been noted that some Micheal's come more stocked with pearl varieties then others...}
Is your wedding coming up!? Do you like unique jewelry!? Feeling a little crafty!?

Peony Love. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

Okay... So I'm a little partial to Peonies {We used them...or rather...a version of them, for our wedding! We opted for a Pink "Peony" Metropole Rose...looks like a Peony...doesn't cost like a Peony!} When I was checking my favorite bridal blogs today I came across this gorgeous inspiration board! Just dreamy!

Remember. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

It's a day to give thanks to those who have served and are serving our country. Thanks to my step brothers who continuously volunteer for tour-after-tour. It seems like as soon as one gets back the other one is on his way out... thinking of you today.

Jon and Bill, before we said good-bye before their last tour...

Lazy Dayz. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

It hasn't been so lazy around the boutique this morning...It's been a morning full of final fittings and training maids of honor how to lace up the bridal gown just right...and calming nerves of a fretful bride the day before her wedding!

Taking a second before our next appointment to wish you all a very happy long weekend! We have decided to take a long weekend ourselves! We'll be back in action bright and early Tuesday morning!! At this very second we're contemplating a weekend road-trip or just staying around the house and being lazy...as our cat Mary already has a jump start on!

Lounging in the sun, feet up, watching the tv...as content as can be! This is what we hope our weekend and yours is like... wherever we end up!

Be Inspired. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michiagan}

Okay. So the honeymoon may be over and now I'm definitely in the nesting stage! Constantly inspired by DIY home projects...{that I usually never do}...this one actually let me use a skill I can do! ....Digital!

I love a good quote just as much as the next guy... but these phrases summed up a lot that Mike and I try to do in our daily lives...and acts as a reminder!

A blog that I was following showed this big drawn out project on how she took some phrases, printed them out, pasted them on a canvas, painted over them, removed them, glossed them...and on and on... but I choose digital as an easier solution!

I was happy when I finished the creation and happier that I sent it in and had it in my hands! But now it's stuck on my fridge! Looking forward to the weekend to either frame it or mat it or what have you...and maybe start a new project :)

Picture on the right is the inspiration, picture on left is my adaptation....

Want your own copy!? Just let us know! Only $19 for the print!

We can always make it say something different too!

Memory Makers {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Downtown Holly Michigan}

I actually inspired myself a little while blogging yesterday. As I hope to give all you Brides and followers a little inspiration here and there, I was surprised that I was taking a dose of my own post! As I typed out my favorite lyric from 'Swing Life Away' I realized that I found the quote I was looking for to spruce up the space over our bed! A little love quote as you fall asleep and wake up next to the one you love never hurt anyone!

And my girlfriends just started their own little business that can help me with just that....Memroy Makers!

So far they've gone crazy with their Cricut machine making scrapbooks, birthday cards and invites, bridal shower cards...you name it! A few weeks before my wedding I had seen a picture of a love quote banner strung from tree limb to tree limb in a couples outdoor wedding ceremony... and I thought, what a perfect way to include one of our favorite quotes into our day! Colleen and I found the perfect solution to making our banner...vinyl! {I'm not the best with paint, so I knew if I tried to paint the words on I would eventually spill ad splatter!} The vinyl works exclusively with the Cricut machine and Colleen was gracious enough to not only let me using her machine - but just went ahead and made it for us! It turned out just as we wanted and it is now draped in our home!

And since then she has taken vows from our friend Samantha's wedding and made the perfect wall decor for over their bed! And I think I just may have to do the same with our favorite lyrics! What a perfect way to dress up a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, laundry room with cute sayings! I've even been suggesting them to other business owners for wall business logos!

Let's see, I'll take a wall quote for the home, a business logo for the boutique and some pre-made bridal shower/wedding cards please!

They've also really gotten into taking all your personal photos and scraping them for you! Do you have a box of your wedding pictures that need some lovin? Send them to the girls and they will create a beautiful scrapbook just for you! And of course, if you want to supply your own papers and embellishments I have to mention Creative Memories! As a "here and there" consulant for Creative Memories over the years I've really come to love how they stay up on modern scrapbooking! I love some of their new wedding kits!

Laboring Love. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Downtown Holly, Michigan}

I thought I was safe in the crying department now that the wedding is over. I anticipated balling as I made my way up to Mike at our ceremony...but I was able to keep it together for the most part...nothing a glass of wine can't handle! But I was so scared because most mornings on my way to the boutique I would put on the 'wedding play list' on my iPod and find myself tearing up as I merely thought about the lyrics and how they pertained to Micheal and I.

I thought I was in the clear this morning...but boy was I wrong! I put in a mixed cd {sounds so 1990s} appropriately named 'Love Mix' that I made for and stole back from Mike...It was full of first dance song choices for our wedding...and on came 'Swing Life Away' by Rise Against....*tear*

"if love is a labor....i'll slave til the end"

We ended up dancing our first dance to Coldplay's 'Yellow'... another song full of great lyrics....and it was even more special because I also walked down the isle to 'Yellow', just in the form of The Vitamin String Quartet! Double dose of a great song!

Prom! {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Downtown Holly, Michigan}

Prom. It's a right of passage and it's most likely a night you'll never forget! Loving the pictures that a client emailed me last night of the dress she bought from Something Blue...and I'm reliving glory days! I know that look on her face, full of the nights anticipation!

We no longer have prom and homecoming gowns in the boutique...we've gone strictly sample wedding gowns and new order bridesmaids dresses...however we are anticipate having a limited time homecoming sale in the late summer!! Some of the ladies I help sell gowns for have rooms full of formal gowns, so I thought why not bring a little punch of color amongst our gorgeous whites and ivories!

Lovely Sheridan, full of style and spunk! She looks comfortable and confident...the best accessories to any dress!

Style '1904' you say? Reminds me of one of Mike and I's favorite songs, '1904' by Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Great Thursday morning jam! Going into Itunes right now to put Phoenix on rotation!

{Blog Love} The Wedding Chicks {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

I've been gone.... getting married! But I'm back now and ready to keep sharing inspiration with you! But don't worry! We'll be dishing all the details about our wedding soon! I figured you just might want some pictures to go along with it....so we'll keep you waiting til we get our professional pictures back from Kel Leigh Coale Photography & Design!

For now I will leave you with a great blog that helped keep me always inspired, The Wedding Chicks!
I just loved this photo because it reminds me of a phone call I got from an aunt just days before the wedding asking if my cousins,
{9 & 7}, could wear their cowboy boots with their new suits!
And the Bride said: 'Come as you are!'

{Sundays Songs} The Wedding Song {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

I realize it's no longer Sunday...but I wish it were! It was quite busy around the boutique on Sunday, but I didn't want to miss the chance to post about Angus & Julia Stone. They are one of those artist that I can't tell you how I came upon them, but I like them more and more the further I get into their music....Maybe it could be that they have the kind of music you can just drive to, escape to, clean to, or just lounge around the house to... or it could be that they have that vintage style to them...from their website, to their songs, to their look. And I find it quite appropriate that they have a song titled "The Wedding Song"...do I sense that you could use this as your first dance song? It's a little bit sweet!

The Wedding Song by Angus & Julia Stone
We are gonna build a life together
You and I forever and ever
And we'll, we'll make babies on the beach
Under the stardust
And I'll hear your voice come through the door
A thousand times, maybe more
And I'll smile inside to know you're mine
Completely

Do you know how lovely you are?
In the starlight, in the starlight of my heart
Do you know how lovely you are?
In the moonlight, in the moonlight of my heart

We're gonna build a home together
You and I for ever and ever
And we'll, we'll make babies on a beach
Under the stardust
And I'll hear your voice come through the door
A thousand times, maybe more
And I'll smile inside to know you're mine
Completely

And I'll wind up every day
Thinking about the way you make me feel
When your lips touch my lips
And I'd crawl inside a cave
Or live somewhere strange
As long as I'm with you
I have got what I need

We are gonna build a life together
You and I for ever and ever
And we'll, we'll make babies on the beach
Under the stardust
And I'll hear your voice come through the door
A thousand times, maybe more
And I'll smile inside to know you're mine
Completely mine

{Bridal Bliss} Eco-Friendly Seating Chart {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

We just recently mentioned in our last post on how eco-friendly a program and seating chart 'poster' can be instead of printing individual programs and place cards! Bride Lauren emailed me a couple weeks ago asking about place cards when I suggested the poster to her...she then sent me over what her invitation had looked like and we took it from there! The posters allow a lot of creativity and can become very custom for your wedding! They also cost less than half the price to print out individual place cards...which usually just get thrown away!
Lauren will be getting married this weekend... we wish her and Jason much luck! I hope you have a beautiful day!

*{I can't wait to get pictures from the wedding, our seamtress did some amazing bustle work that I can't wait to share with you all!}

Original Invitation that Lauren had sent to me for inspiration for the seating chart:
Seating chart Something Blue created using inspiration from the invite! *Will print out very large! 20x30

{Song Sunday} Love You More. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

I suppose I didn't realize that the lyrics were so simple to this song. Simple, yet significant. Sometimes that's just all you need to say...
"Love you more than anyone
Love you more than anyone
Love you more in time to come
Love you more"

If you're looking for a good love song to end this beautiful weekend - let it be "Love You More" by Alexi Murdoch

{Saturday Blogging} Elegance & Simplicity {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

With our wedding only 2 weeks away I've been catching up on all my favorite wedding blogs for last minute inspiration!! There's always my favorite stand-bys, Style Me Pretty & Snippet & Ink... but I want to start sharing some of the others I keep tucked away in my Favorites!

I was most inspired by the blog Elegance & Simplicity...well, because those were my favorite words to use while describing our wedding! We've tried to do what we can that keeps the overall budget to a conservative low and doesn't make a lot of waste....all while keeping it elegant!

One of my favorite ideas was making a Ceremony "Poster" in-lieu of ceremony programs... those poor little things just get thrown away! The poster will cut back on wasted paper, ink, and printing energy! And they are so customizable and fun! Can't wait to share pictures of ours with you! Our seating chart is also in 'poster' style, which again saves the waste of 100s of tiny table number cards...that again, just go to waste!

We also had our RSVPs come back in the form of a postcard, which has been a very popular trend! It saves from having to encase the RSVP in an envelope and is about half the postage!

Our favors are something that people can use for a short time and when they are done the glass container can be recycled... or refilled! {Stay tuned to find out what they are!}

My dress is eco-friendly in a way...I bought it as a sample {off-the-rack} so a new one didn't have to be manufactured and shipped. One less imprint on the earth.

Our flowers are simple and quite the vase fillers. We have chosen baby's breath and peony-like roses which have very big blossoms. Some vases will be full of baby's breath and the others the roses. Minimal flowers and arranging them ourselves cuts our floral budget in half, especially when reusing vases from a friends wedding.

Our ceremony & reception location are all in one...saving the need to print extra directions in our invites and excessive driving for guests. {And our wedding location, Royal Park Hotel, just received a Green Lodging Certificate, so that's always an added bonus!}

Our Ring Bearers Tux is a hand-me down and our Flower Girls dress is locally handmade! {Bought at Morgan's Boutique in Downtown Holly}

Our invite set, created by us! Printed on eco-friendly grey paper!

Digital file of our seating chart so far...work in progress...

{Bridal Bliss} A Special Order {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

So, most of the brides that have purchased their gowns from me aren't getting married until early summer and some even into next year...so it hasn't quite caught up to me that we are not just selling a gown, we are selling an emotion. And emotional me loves a little emotion...like in the form of an email that I received from a Bride today! {She hadn't even bought her dress from me...we weren't open yet back when she bought her gown...she simply came in a few weeks before her wedding and was in need of a veil} I was happy to help her order the perfect shade and length..having no idea how grateful she'd be to us for just helping her order her veil! This has to be the sweetest email!

Nicole, January 2010 I specially ordered my veil through you. I wanted a special style and color veil. You were able to find the perfect style and color veil to match my dress. It matched perfect! I wanted to tell you thank you so much for all your help!
I have recommended your business to everyone that asks about wedding apparel!
I've attached a couple of pictures to share the beautiful day with you!
Thank you again

Here are a some pictures of the GORGEOUS Bride and her handsome Groom!

{Friday Fitness} Ethos Yoga {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly Michigan}

Ethos Center for Yoga and Therapeutic Arts is a place that I don't find myself often enough.. but when I do, something almost supernatural happens. I always leave with a great burning sweat, a sense of accomplishment, and more often than not, some good music that I download as soon as I get home. There's nothing like good flow with beating music and sounding breaths!

After booking our wedding photographer, Kel Leigh Coale Photography & Design, in Downtown Holly last spring, I noticed Ethos Yoga Studio and have recommended it highly ever since...And now I'd like to add them as our fitness feature for Friday! If you're looking for a complete body work out, a stress reliever, and a soul enhancer... then you need to visit Ethos! Especially if you are in the midst of wedding planning!!! {Thursday's Treasures} Sawyer Jewelers {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly MI}

If you haven't noticed, we're trying to theme each day of the week in way that will bring Brides much wedding inspiration! ...or just keep those of us obsessed with weddings in touch! I thought it would be fun to post different items each week that we can catalog order {jewelry, purses, veils} or items that have-been/can-be custom created by local designers, and even inspiration from around the world and top designers!

And as much as I can't wait to show all the different items we can order for you... I have to let you all know about a true treasure, Sawyer Jewelers, in Fenton, MI..."Where sometimes it's okay to throw rocks at girls!"
I finally met Sawyer Jewelers owner, Chip, this morning... they will be participating in Downtown Holly's upcoming Ladies Night Out {May 7th, 5-9pm} ...they are going to have some great incentives in the eco-friendly bag give-away {given to the the first 300 ladies to arrive at Ladies Night Out!} and a great raffle item! Chip is very enthusiastic about his and surrounding communities and I was very happy to get to know him. Look for specials deals between Sawyer Jewelers and Something Blue Bridal Boutique to come soon!
Sawyer Jewelers is located at 101 N Adelaide, Fenton, Michigan

{Wednesday Wedding Inspiration} "Something Blue" {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly MI}

Of course, with my my business being named 'Something Blue'... I have to have a strong 'something blue' for our wedding! We thought about making our custom candle favors {from The Holly Candle Shoppe - next door to the Bridal Boutique}... blue, but they just look so darn cute in light pink! And then, as I was searching around the Internet for endless wedding inspiration, I came across some very fashionable wedding photography with classic cars... and then it hit me! I hail from 'car people'...AND my father has a teal Plymouth Newport, one he saved from the junk yard back in the day. It's not a show stopper... but it's got character beyond belief...and it's BLUE! I think it will be the perfect way to incorporate some great shots {that even my father will appreciate!} and our something blue!
I continued to search 'bride & groom wedding photography with car' to give us some inspiration come wedding day! Here's what I found:

{Tuesdays with Vendors} Arbie Goodfellow {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly MI}

I was fortunate enough to have local artist, Abrie Goodfellow, come to Something Blue and show us her amazing talent! Arbie handcrafts gorgeous hair accessories and jewelry for brides...{hair piece shown above} We're very excited to refer her work and we look forward to carrying more of Arbie's products in the future! Here's a little bit about her....

Born and raised in Michigan, Arbie Goodfellow started designing and beading her own costumes while training as a competitive figure skater. After coaching for many years, Arbie decided to use her creativity and beading skills to design and develop a Couture line of neckwear and earrings. Each piece is skillfully hand beaded by Arbie herself, using only the finest European ribbons and Swarvoski elements for her "Special Occasion Collection".

Heavenly Shower. {Something Blue Bridal Boutique, Holly MI}

I owe my friend Samantha credit for the location; Heavenly Scent Herb Farm in Fenton, Michigan! She had her bridal shower there {under the outdoor gazebo near a flowing waterfall} and had originally turned me on to the always gorgeous, always calming serenity the location brings. Even though I had unfortunately missed her shower, the pictures were gorgeous and I found myself frequenting the farm often! It was on another occasion with Sam, after a long lunch of wine and flat bread sandwiches at The French Laundry, that we visited Heavenly Scent and snuck down to the basement - it was just then I began to envision my shower there! Exposed tree beams, stained glass, big fireplace hearth, and cozy to no end...
And that's pretty much where I left off...{a location with natural beauty}...and my friend Kel Leigh picked up! She was so gracious to let me borrow her many vases and floral design skills to help complete the look! And not only is she great at helping put on an event...she captured these gorgeous pictures as well!

How will you say 'I LOVE YOU'.

If it's one thing I love...it's a long hot shower...and when I was younger...it was playing with moms shaving cream in the shower and making sayings and writings on the shower wall...which jogged my memory last night...there was an infamous time when we were younger, back when they used to throw all the girl sisters and cousins in the bath at once...we had made a monster mess with the shaving cream...and the oldest cousin, my soon-to-be-matron of honor, took all the heat for it...it was funny back then and it still made me smile as I left a little love note for Michael in the shower yesterday...

...How will you say "I LOVE YOU" this valentines day...
